How I work -Come lavoro

A clay job is a slow process.

First thing you have to do is model the piece. When it's finished you have to let it dry, but before

the piece is completely dry, you have to empty the sculpture.

You do this with bigger sculptures, to avoid the little air bubbles that remain in clay.

These can make the piece explode during the cooking process (the temperature in the oven should be

over 1200 C degree). You can empty the sculpture by "cutting" it carefully into many pieces,

with a thin nylon yarn.

Then you empty every piece with the special tools. After that, you rebuild the whole sculpture

as it was before the cutting.

To make the "pasting" after the cutting be easier, you have to make little cuts on the edge,

to help the "barbottina", a mixture of water and clay, work as "glue".

Per prima cosa bisogna modellare il pezzo. Quando è finito bisogna lasciarlo asciugare, ma prima che il pezzo sia completamente secco, bisogna svuotare la scultura.

Si procede in questo modo per le sculture più grandi, per evitare che le piccole bolle d'aria rimaste intrappolate nell'impasto facciano esplodere il pezzo durante la cottura (la temperatura del forno raggiunge i 1200 gradi C).

Si svuota la scultura "tagliandola" delicatamente in pezzi, con un sottile filo di nylon.

Dopo di che si svuota ogni pezzo con degli attrezzi speciali. Alla fine si riassembla tutto com'era prima dei tagli.

Per "re-incollare" i vari pezzi bisogna eseguire alcuni ulteriori tagli lungo il bordo per aiutare la barbottina, un impasto di argilla e acqua, a fungere da collante.
